My girlfriends dad randomly mentioned that his parents probably still had their old turntable, which we absolutely didn’t need, but look at it

Kinja'd!!!

They haven’t used it in ages since it started having speed problems, so they let us have it with the promise that we will fix it and not sell it or get rid of it. From what I can find, this is arguably the best turntable Sansui made. This particular one is from 1977, only a year newer than our 9090DB.

It has a Pickering XV-15/625E, but the needle is broken off. I’ll be paying Space Lab a visit to see if he has anything that would be suitable, or maybe I’ll finally buy an Ortofon Red. I tested it with the cartridge and needle from our Pioneer, that has no markings so who knows what it is.

Kinja'd!!!

It most certainly couldn’t keep speed, and two songs into the record it slowed down until it finally stopped, and now it won’t move at all. Oh well, it was free. Time to figure out how to remove the platter and check out the motor.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m really excited to get this working properly, it's gorgeous, heavy, and just looks and feels to be in a totally different league from our Pioneer.

Awesome find. My aunt has a McIntosh stereo tube amp in her basement I've been thinking about buying from her.

A couple of finds from my grandmothers house and fathers collection of obsolete stuff

A commercial light fixture from the early 1900s I rewired it and hung it over my kitchen table.

A 1940 Evinrude Sportwin 3.3hp hadn’t run since 69 I got it going 2 weeks ago.

Nice! I don’t know McIntosh amps, but I can’t recommend tube amps enough

Kinja'd!!!

The little Dynaco doesn’t have enough grunt for the low end, but it's amazing when all it has to worry about is the top end.

The cartridge from your Pioneer looks much like some by Shure.

I needed a new prop and had to leave the fish camp before it showed up. Next summer I'll put it on the boat and try it out oars at the ready.

I just found a cheap POS at goodwill. I need to fix the speed, replace the needle, and then find some compatible speakers...which I believe I overlooked at the store.

Looks much like M91ED series or M93E. I had Shure cartridge on my ELAC Miracord for many years. Tried Ortofon and Audio-Technica for a while but went back to Shure for my last replacement stylus and just re-used an old cartridge. BTW one of my best friends worked for AT for a decade. I had the Nikon microscope light that was used for stylus ad photos for many years. Sold it 12 yrs ago to a guy with the Arizona State Parks who did nature photography.

I love record players.

My parents have a 8-speaker Zenith from 1967. Still sounds great

I have a little portable turntable that was used for classrooms in the 70s that I like to keep in my dorm and connect to my speakers

Damn, that beats my 6 speaker Marconi. Mine is also not working at the moment....oh that's pretty sweet too. We have a modern audio-technica that is unused at the moment, the Marconi, the Pioneer that the main stereo setup uses, and now this Sansui. If I can fix it, it will replace the Pioneer

They had got a great deal on the Zenith too. They paid like $150 for it and it only has a small scuff on the side of the cabinet. I’m hoping it will be mine someday

It retailed for as much as a car when it was new, it’s crazy

My barber restores record players and player pianos as a hobby, we get parts to fix them from him. He’s got a big old Rockola jukebox from the 60s that is unbelievably awesome
